Havering Indoor Rowing - Harrow Lodge 

9 of our senior students travelled to Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre in Hornchurch to represent Lime Academy Forest Approach at the Havering Indoor Rowing competition. They raced against other schools in individual and relay races. There were some outstanding individual performances with 1st place finishes in the Year 9 & Year 10 boys races (each by at least 100m!) We also achieved 3  2nd place finishes and 2 coming in 3rd. The team’s effort and achievements didn’t go unnoticed, as all 9 students were invited to Crystal Palace National Sports Centre to represent Havering at the London Youth Games Finals weekend in July!

This was many of their first experience of competitive inter-school sport so to overcome the psychological and physical barriers to earn their place at the LYG finals was a huge achievement!  

London Youth Games Football - Hackney Marshes 

This was a huge event with over 20 London boroughs entering male & female teams for 7-a-side football at Hackney Marshes.The day gave 8 Lime Academy Forest Approach students the opportunity to represent Havering, making up the teams with 2 other schools. The matches got off to a tough start with both teams losing their first matches. However, the boys recovered to win 2 of their 3 remaining fixtures with the girls picking up a win and 2 draws from theirs. Overall Havering finished 9th, a more than respectable outcome considering the number of first time competitors!

London Youth Games Indoor Rowing - Crystal Palace National Centre

8 of our Indoor Rowing team dragged themselves out of bed in the early hours of a Sunday morning to arrive ready to represent Havering at the London Youth Games Finals weekend at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Another huge competition with 23 boroughs entering the Indoor Rowing event. This was initially a daunting experience for the Lime Academy Forest Approach athletes as they quickly realised how many people would be watching them race! However this was soon turned into determination to show everyone how well they could do, and that was proved by the results! We picked up 2 silver & 3 bronze medals in our races, with Havering placing 2nd overall out of the 23 teams! An outstanding achievement and a fantastic day had by all!

Havering Panathlon - Drapers Academy

16 Lime Academy Forest Approach pupils made up 2 teams to make the short journey over the road to Drapers Academy. We competed against 5 other local schools in the Panathlon, which is made up of Table Cricket, Boccia, New Age Kurling, Polybat and track and field indoor athletics. 

Every member of the teams had the chance to compete in every event which was great to see.It was clear that our main strengths were in the track athletics events as Lime Academy Forest Approach won every race!

This was a highly successful day with lots of individual and team medals won. 8 of our team members qualified to represent Havering at the next round of the competition against other East London boroughs. Both Lime Academy Forest Approach teams finished as joint borough champions! Congratulations to all of our team, who couldn’t wait to return and show off their medals and trophy to the rest of the school, which we can now display in our new trophy cabinet!

East London Panathlon Semi Final - Frenford Clubs

The next round of the East London Panathlon was quickly upon us. The team arrived confident that they could repeat their success from the first round. However, it was clear to see straight away that the standard of the competition was much higher at this stage. Representing Havering this time, Lime Academy Forest Approach again dominated the athletics events, with gold medals being won in standing long jump, target throwing, javelin and 3 of the 5 relay races! More strong performances in boccia, tablet cricket and polybat meant that Havering finished in 2nd place behind Barking & Dagenham. This was an amazing result, the first time that Havering had finished in the top two at this stage of the East London Panathlon, meaning we qualified for the East London Final, at UEL Sports Dock. Another trophy for the cabinet, and lots more medals for the student’s collection!

Table Cricket - Columbus College

Following on from some Table Cricket sessions delivered by Essex County Cricket Club, we were invited to enter the Essex Table Cricket competition at Columbus College. This provided a great opportunity for some more students to represent the school in competitive sport! We played 5 matches, winning 2, losing 2 and 1 finishing as a tie! The standard of Table Cricket on show was strong and the Lime Academy Forest Approach team should be proud of their joint 4th place finish, out of 8 schools and colleges. Well done to one of our Sixth Form students for his brilliant captaincy throughout the day and our Year 11 Sports Leader for supporting the team. Special thanks to the Disability Cricket team at Essex for putting on a brilliant competition.

London Youth Games Boccia - UEL Sports Dock

Another opportunity to represent Havering at a London Youth Games competition, this time in Boccia. There were some outstanding displays of Boccia skill throughout the day, but our team more than held their own by winning 3 of their 7 matches. A great effort considering this was a first Boccia event for ⅔ of our team Well done again to our Sixth Form captain and Year 11 Sports Leader for leading the Havering team throughout the day!. We finished 14th out of 24 boroughs, just missing out on a top half finish, which shows the size of the event!

East London Panathlon Final - UEL Sports Dock

As expected, the standard of play increased dramatically again for the final round of the East London Panathlon. There were 8 boroughs there on the day, split into 2 groups. Due to our performances in the previous rounds, Havering were placed in the strongest group, for the first time, alongside Barking & Dagenham, Hackney and Newham. It was great for the Lime Academy Forest Approach students to have the chance to compete against the best players in the area at each sport, and quickly showed that they were worthy competitors! Havering picked up bronze medals in Table Cricket, Boccia and Long Jump (where just 4cm separated Bronze and Gold), a fantastic effort. We also managed silver in Javelin, with a combined throw more than 5 metres further than what was achieved in the last round. We then continued our dominance of track athletics winning the open relay races by some distance! However, the strength of the other boroughs across all events meant that Havering finished in 4th place on the day. The team shouldn’t forget that 16 boroughs entered this event and they have done their borough proud by being the first Havering team to reach the East London Final. We’ll try again next year! Basketball vs Redden Court 

Our eagerly anticipated first basketball fixture! All of the senior classes have been training exceptionally hard in their P.E lessons which made choosing a squad very difficult as so many students deserved a place! A hard fought match between Redden Court and ourselves had many twists, with both teams playing fast, creative basketball.  Lime Academy Forest Approach eventually ran out winners, final score 42-34. Lots of staff and student spectators came to the hall to support the team, creating a brilliant atmosphere and a great time was had by all! Our squad included 3 students who were representing a school sports team for the first time.
